What is the difference between live-in care and 24/7 home care?
These two terms get used interchangeably, but they describe different arrangements. Live-in care means one caregiver resides in the home for an extended period — typically working a long day shift and then being available overnight with structured sleep breaks built in. They're present, but they're not awake and actively working around the clock. This works well for seniors who need consistent daytime support and overnight supervision, but who don't require someone active and alert at all hours of the night.
24/7 care, by contrast, uses rotating caregivers working in shifts — typically two or three people covering the full day in blocks — so there's always someone awake and on duty. It's a higher level of coverage and generally costs more. During the in-home assessment, we'll help you figure out which arrangement actually fits your parent's situation. If your parent is recovering from a procedure at NYU Langone Hospital in Mineola and needs close overnight monitoring in the short term, that's a different picture than a senior who needs daily help but sleeps soundly through the night.
