What does a certified home health aide actually do day to day?
A certified home health aide, often called a CHHA or HHA, helps with the personal care tasks that have become difficult or unsafe to do alone. That includes bathing, dressing, grooming, mobility assistance, meal preparation, medication reminders, and light housekeeping related to the client's care. They're also a consistent, reliable presence during the hours when family members aren't available, which for most Salisbury households means the bulk of the workday.
What distinguishes an HHA from a general personal care aide is training and scope. A certified home health aide has completed a state-approved training program and passed a competency evaluation. In New York, that certification is issued through a NYSDOH or NYSED-approved program. HHAs can assist with basic health monitoring tasks, checking vitals, observing for changes in condition, supporting medication management, that fall outside what a personal care aide is trained to do. At Axzons Homecare, every HHA works under RN supervision, which means a nurse is reviewing the care plan and available when clinical questions come up.
