What kind of training do your caregivers have for adults with Down syndrome?
Our caregivers go through a rigorous screening and evaluation process that includes assessments of compassion, integrity, and competence, not just a standard background check. Caregivers assigned to clients with Down syndrome are specifically trained for this population, which means they understand the communication styles, behavioral patterns, and health considerations that come with the diagnosis. That includes awareness of co-occurring conditions like hypothyroidism, sleep apnea, and early-onset Alzheimer's disease, which affect a significant portion of adults with Down syndrome as they age. We don't assign a generalist and hope for the best. The training is specific because the need is specific.
